Leaves messing up server?

So, I noticed when I log in that there are leaves everywhere and my game crashes after about 10 seconds.

Did we get griefed?
Can this be fixed?

Well there is a giant forest forming on the....west...north...one side of the map. (turn right at the spawn crossroads) those are the only leaves I know about. other than that, I guess its just your computer?

That is my house area, more or less to the right of spawn (Funzies road).
All I can see are leaf blocks all over the back of the hill. My PC has been fine and I can play single player. The message I get says that Java is out of memory.
Someone on the server said there was a problem because of the leaves.

I can stay connected longer than 10 seconds. Can an Admin go to that area and check it out?

yeah Smulet has his set-up in that area as well and he was riding pretty hard for an admin/op+ to clear it out. so far nobody has done anything, and the forest is growing like a mad man! so I hope for the best in your quest to find someone to delete the forest of doom as we now call it in game btw....boobies

Yup it's known has the Haunted Forest. Best thing to do is to reduce all your sound and graphics. Turn off opengl and light smoothing. It does the same thing to me with one of my machines. All that leaf decay and stuff.

Where did this come from why can't it be removed?
Is this some kind of griefing or mod?

It being there basically means I can't play on the server anymore.
MC crashes in 10 seconds.

Sorry but they seem to magically grow back. I guess we need a new map

If you get java errors that isn't due tO the trees it's because too much of your ram is being used up by something else also we are getting a new map but it's going to be quite a change but first I need to finish it's spawn (the errors might be cause by the size of the map file [1Gb])

Thanks for the reply. I have new i7 PC with 16GB of RAM and 2 SLI vidcards with combined RAM of 3 GB, so I am pretty sure it is not my PC :-)

The leaves are new so I am thinking that is the issue. Do you know what caused this to run wild?

Also, any idea of the new map ETA? I have lot of minded stuff I would love to sell prior to losing it all on a new map.

Depends on how long it takes me to set up the new spawn but that's a secret

And here I was going to suggest upping the virtual memory.. With the 16gigs I'm guessing your using a 64bit windows version?

Yes, I am using the 64 bit version (Windows 7 Pro). This is custom built PC to my specs. I am an IT guy and a pretty hardcore PC gamer so I take my PC builds pretty seriously :-)

If I can't stay logged in, could I maybe ask you to get into my chest(s) to buy some of my inventory? I have quite a few diamonds, gold, and iron that I mined and hate to lose all that value.

I will try to be on tonight and this weekend if it works and will let me in.

well with the new map we will be getting a new price list which means all the money would be reset so even if tbird bought your stuff it wouldnt really matter in the long run

That is some interesting info. I can't say I am real happy to hear it since I worked so hard to earn myself up to 7th place money wise on the server by legitimately mining and selling. That is a lot of time and work down the drain. I had hoped to be able finance a town and stargate since those are so expensive......

Can I request that these kinds of major changes be discussed on the forums?
I know I would like to have some input and I am sure others would as well.
Close can always still decide to do whatever he wants but it would be nice to give everyone a headsup and get a feeling for what the other community members think.
